2010 Belmont Area Street Fair
"Localmotion," the annual Belmont Area Street Fair is on track for Sunday Sept. 12, 10am - 5pm with more hustle and bustle than ever. The "downtown core" of Belmont from SE 34th to 37th will be closed to vehicle traffic but open to everything else: thousands of visitors, over 160 craft booths, 4 music performance areas, a food festival, children's fun center and alternative transpo. expo. In addition there will be two free shuttles - the bluegrass trolley and the Mexican fiesta bus - to get guests in musical style to the other special events along Belmont from 20th to 58th. To date, we are sold out of booth space but call 503 774-2832 to be on the waiting list. Download our 2010 Poster in the Documents section of our Resources page. INFORMATION ABOUT THE BELMONT AREA!
The Belmont Area Business district extends between SE Yamhill and SE Stark from SE 12th Avenue to SE 60th Avenue. There are over 300 businesses on three major streets, Belmont, Morrison and Stark with hundreds of residences in between.
HISTORIC AREA
SE Belmont featured the first trolley line on Portland's east side in 1888 and the first bike corrals in 2008. Belmont, Morrison and Stark Streets developed with characteristic nodes of street level businesses at the trolley stops with housing above and between stops. These historic 'streetcar' structures along a narrow transit corridor contribute to the Belmont Area's special charm yet today!
BUSINESS ASSOCIATION ACTIVITIES
The BABA board meets the second Tuesday of each month from 9 - 10:30 am at the Historic Belmont Firehouse, 900 SE 35th Avenue. Business owners, residents and employees of the Belmont Area are encouraged to attend the meetings! Board President is Don Porth, Historic Belmont Firehouse (503)823-3615 dporth@fire.ci.portland.or.us
BABA's major activity is the annual Belmont Street Fair which is scheduled for Sunday, September 12, 2010. BABA also hosts monthly mixers for you to meet your neighbors and talk about running a business in the area. BABA can be your liaison with city government and with APBNA to procure grants to develop and improve storefronts and business conditions. Baba helps you keep up to date with progress of proposed bike corrals, police district realignment and graffiti removal options. Baba publishes a monthly news column on the inside last page of SE Examiner, maintains a mailing and e-mail list (with your help), sponsors special events like seminars on marketing, safety and finance, along with special projects like the Belmont banners, flower baskets and public art.
